Singapore, 24 April 2008, the award for Best Preclinical or Clinical Contract Research Organisation was presented to Maccine last week at the culmination of the Biomedical Asia 2008 conference, the largest biomedical sciences focused meeting in Asia. Awards were presented to biomedical organisations from Singapore, Korea and Taiwan at the event.

Presenting the award, BioSingapore cited the exciting range of services and sound business delivery as key reasons for this recognition. Alongside regulatory safety assessment services, Maccine has established a portfolio of in vivo efficacy models and has been building an extensive global client base since its establishment in Singapore in 2003.

Maccine's CEO, Dr Mark Duxon, commented on the award. "The fact that we run discovery services in an AAALAC accredited, GLP environment has helped us to grow a unique portfolio of models based on quality and reproducibility. The team at Maccine is very grateful to BioSingapore for this recognition. This year, we will pass a number of key milestones in our development including the expansion of our memory testing suites and the establishment of bio-imaging capabilities including PET/CT and MRI."

Singapore's research and development community continues to grow with significant R&D expansion announcements from major pharma announced this year. Since 2000, the total government investment in the biomedical sciences initiative was recently reported at over $3 billion Singapore dollars, half of which is destined for translational and clinical sciences programs.
